It was officially presented on June 9, the opening day of the 10th annual Winexpo in Tbilisi, Georgia, followed by a Q&A session with the authors at the popular Amber Bar in Tbilisi's exciting Left Bank neighborhood.
The recipient of the "Worshipful Company of Vintners" prestigious Geoffrey Roberts Award in 2016, the book is the culmination of months of research across the entire country of Georgia. The resulting book is 300 pages in length, with countless full color photographs, extensive maps, cellar listings, and a great wealth of additional information about one of the oldest wine-producing countries in the world.
As with the other books in the Vinologue series (which started in 2007), the book focuses on helping anyone from first time visitors to experienced wine professional navigate the ancient and at times exotic nature of Georgian wines. While there is a special emphasis on the production of and use of the ancient terracotta pots called kvevri (spanning 8,000 years), the book also delves into the production of wines in the more international methods of stainless steel and oak, as well as everything that comes in between as the Georgians are continually experimenting given the modern upswing in interest for their wines.
The two authors are experts in their fields and Georgian wine enthusiasts. Miquel Hudin was the recipient of the Fortnum & Mason Award's Best Drink Writer of 2017 and is a Certified Sommelier who writes for countless international wine publications.
He talked to Georgian Journal about the book.
“The Georgian book came for people who love food and wine, there were no proper guides for this. It was a need that I personally had and since publishing these books, I've found that many others share it.
For Georgia I think it was crucial as while there has been buzz about your country within professional wine circles, this has absolutely not translated to the regular wine drinker and I'm hoping this book will bridge that gap.
The process of writing was similar to the other books in which I embed myself in the country. For Georgia, I traveled from the West to East, North to South to cover as much as possible over several trips last year that took three months of intense research. However, this seemed to be still insufficient, so I brought on board co-author Daria Kholodilina because she is based in Tbilisi and could give additional insider, as well as local information.”

According to Miquel, the book extensively covers Georgia's wine regions which the authors have broken down into four distinct bands. The section about Tbilisi is presented separately.
Wine-lovers can find recommendations for wine-related places such as bars and restaurants in the book, as well as interesting profiles for the majority of the cellars in Georgia. Besides, as Mr. Hudin tells us, there are a number of chapters about the history, food, grapes, and even a bit about the Georgian language.
The co-author of the book, Daria Kholodilina is a marketing and tourism expert from Ukraine, based in Tbilisi for years now, with a very popular blog covering mostly Georgian food and travel.
